For the past 6 or 7 years, I have always used the last 2 days of each year to write down 10 goals for the upcoming year. This has become a tradition that I enjoy very much since it gives me a clear path to follow in the new year. It is my experience that just by taking the time to think about and write down your goals, they are more likely to become real.
Before I start deciding my goals, I read the goals from the previous year and see how well I have done. Normally, I am able to accomplish 40–60% of my goals each year. Don’t just write down goals that you think other people would write down—really take the time to think about who you are and what you truly want to get out of this life. Knowing who you are and what you want is not always as easy as it sounds, so this is a good chance to see if you really are in touch with your true self. While writing the goals, try keeping the SMART (Specific – Measurable – Achievable – Realistic – Timed) criteria in mind so that your goals have a time limit and so you know when you can cross them off your list.
Those few hours at the end of each year have become a zen-like experience for me, and I could absolutely recommend this to anyone who is interested in improving their current situation.
And while I write this post, we are having a very white Christmas here in Iceland, so I thought I would share this video of the fun snow we are having here.
